CHURCH SERMONS BY REV. MINISTER ANGELA SMITH & MORE

[VIRTUAL "PASS THE BASKET" HAPPENING NOW]

Sunday Services, including weekly sermons, will be provided here virtually.  Said services may include Youtube videos of church services, written sermons, and Twitter sermons.  In addition, honorary proselytizers and/or congregants of COPE Ministries are welcome to provide feedback or even sermonize in this space.  Certain restrictions may apply, honesty (including intellectual honesty) is a pre-requisite for any contributions to available sermons here.  If you do not care to read, hear, or view our church sermons, please return to the homepage and donate if you wish.  Donations are tax-deductible.  [Special Note: As a result of COVID-19/Coronavirus concerns, church services will be virtual indefinitely with few exceptions until further notice.]

To join the virtual congregation sermon e-mail discussion group, e-mail rev@cope.church with subject "I Wish To Participate".  The rules for participation are honesty and citing sources whenever stating something as fact rather than opinion.  Discussions will take place officially weekly from 12am Sunday to 12am Monday beginning any given Sunday and ending the Monday that follows said Sunday.  Complete transcripts of the discussion of the weekly sermon will be featured on the feedback page.  Because it is an e-mail discussion group it will require everyone signed up be identified so all can participate via "reply all".  If you prefer privacy and still wish to participate, you may wish to create a new e-mail address if you do not wish for your primary e-mail address to be shared publicly.  Any discussions not featured will be denied publication as a result of popular vote of participants on any given Sunday.  However, one of the goals of COPE is to be completely transparent and lead by example for the sake of Truth and Virtue (aka GOD).  And, it is COPE's hope you'll all vote for transparency.

If you do not talk to them you will not know them, and what you do not know you will fear. What one fears one destroys.” ― Chief Dan George  Source: https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/82389-if-you-talk-to-the-animals-they-will-talk-with  Human beings are also part of the animal kingdom and are of the order primates, class of mammals, and family hominidae in scientific terms.  So, have conversations where you consider the other side's perspective with the regard you'd have them consider your own and perhaps you'll know and no longer fear the unknown.)

IMPORTANT CORRECTIONS: The above sermon and video includes some errors.  I do accept feedback as does the church and we welcome factual corrections but require you cite your sources.  Law enforcement was responsible for 1540 (not 1545 as stated in the video) homicides at scenes of arrest (out of a total 1553) over a 4 year (not 3 year period).  Source: https://www.bjs.gov/content/dcrp/tables/dcst06let1.pdf  So, that means law enforcement is on average responsible for 1540/4=385 homicides during arrests annually and not the 515 as stated in the video based on 1545 divided by 3 which was inaccurate.  Now, there were 15,129 homicides in the US in 2017.  So, that is the number used for calculating the civilian or total number of annual homicides for statistical comparative reporting purposes.  Source: https://ucr.fbi.gov/crime-in-the-u.s/2017/crime-in-the-u.s.-2017/topic-pages/expanded-homicide  So, 385/365=1.05 homicides by cop per day rather than the 1.4 homicides by cop per day as shown in the video.  Now, that puts the total homicides by civilians annually at 14,744 which when divided by 365=40.39 or rounded down to 40.  So, the statistic remains accurate with the 40 to 1 even with the corrected data.  And, understanding the following numbers include 13 homicides with police at the scene where police were not responsible but civilians were, the total homicides during arrests (including those 13 for which the police were not responsible in there somewhere) breaks down demographically like this with data from 4 years total: Suspects/Victims Identified as Non-Hispanic White: 675 over a 4 year period= 168.5 or 169 potentially killed during arrest by cops annually.  Suspects/Victims Identified as Non-Hispanic Black: 454 over a 4 year period=113.5 potentially killed during arrest by cops annually.  Suspects/Victims Identified as Hispanic:326 over a 4 year period= 81.5 potentially killed during arrest by cops annually.  Suspects/Victims Identified as Other: 72 over a 4 year period=18 killed during arrest by cops annually.  Source: https://www.bjs.gov/content/dcrp/tables/dcst06let5.pdf  I'm fallible and admit that.  And, also fact check myself while being humble enough to consider information I may not have been privy too previously or may have misunderstood due to traumatic stress or something.  According to the above linked 2017 report from which the 15,129 number was derived, 54% of homicides in that year were committed by suspects identified as Non-Hispanic Black in reports.  That means 8,169.66 (or rounded up to 8,170 homicides with 51% of all homicide victims being identified as Non-Hispanic Black in reports.  So, that means 7,715.79 (or rounded up to 7716 victims with cops responsible for 113 of those annually and Non-Hispanic Black suspects responsible for 8,170 of annual homicides.  So, if just considering annual kills of Non-Hispanic Blacks, we have potentially 7,716 kills by Non-Hispanic Blacks of same and 113 kills by cops of same.  It's either that number or not limiting victim count to victims identified as Non-Hispanic Black in reports and attributing the full 8,170.  That's the only reason I'm doing the math this way.  So, 7,716 to 113 annually.  I'm now going to add 7716 to 113= 7829.  That means law enforcement at most is responsible for 1.4% of homicides of victims identified as Non-Hispanic Black annually and Perpetrators identified as Non-Hispanic Black are responsible for 98.6%.  Now, there may be other ways to read and review the data.  If you are reasonable and present your information while citing sources in context, I'll happily respect it and may even change my own position or statements with willingness to be corrected.  The reality is that 40 Civilian Kills to 1 Cop Killing A Suspect per day, makes the cops seem very reasonable in that context alone even if people believe that 29% (113.5/385) is disproprotionate to the overall percentage of the population identified as Non-Hispanic Black in the census which is 13.4%.  And, 44% of the suspects killed by cops annually are identified as Non-Hispanic White which is disproportionate (this is so disgusting, "kill the exact percentage that correlates to the overall percentage of each group annually or else", is that the message?) because according to the census the overall percentage of the population identified as Non-Hispanic White is 60.1%.  Now, victims of potential homicide by cop that are identified as Hispanic make up 21% but the overall population of Hispanics according to the census is 18.5%.  And, those identified as "Other" in reports about homicides potentially by cops during arrests or at scenes of arrest is 4.6% and the "others" make up more than 10%.  I still say if you are responsible for 54% of homicides and victim of 51% of homicides that the difference is in your favor.  #BlackLivesMatter
